About EMDR

Do you ever feel worthless or inadequate even though you know that you are a person of value? EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), is a  therapy approach that focuses on what you’re feeling now.  Sometimes emotionally charged experiences  influence your daily life and can make you feel stuck in a negative loop.  You may experience fear, intrusive thoughts, depression or anxiety.  Unlike regular “ talk”  therapy,  EMDR is a specialized method that empowers you to  reprocess your negative thoughts and experiences to an emotionally healthier present.

EMDR and the Sleep Connection

When we sleep,  we alternate between regular sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). REM sleep is a deep restorative state in the sleep cycle when we have vivid dreams. It’s a way our  brains can help us process our troubles and reduce stress. EMDR replicates this sleep pattern with bilateral stimulation by using tapping or specialized eye movement while you give brief reports to your therapist about what you are noticing and feeling. The eye movement in EMDR  helps you  change your relationship to traumatic memories so you can work through them beyond just talking about them.

EMDR is effective in treating a broad range of symptoms including: anxiety, panic, stress, fears, phobias, depression, self-confidence and self-esteem, performance anxiety, relationship issues, shame and guilt, and gender dysphoria.
